What To Expect

Day 1: Wine Country Bike TourMeet your guide at San Francisco's Civic Center for the ride up to Napa Valley, Dry Creek Valley, or Russian River Valley, depending on the day. The Napa Valley is home to many different excellent varietals, the Dry Creek Valley is known for its zinfandel, and the Russian River Valley produces distinctive chardonnay and pinot noir. Once you reach your destination, climb aboard your bicycle and follow your guide along scenic country roads, stopping at 4 different wineries with your small group. Purchase a tasting (own expense) at each winery, then learn about the different wines and how they are made from your host. At lunchtime, stop among the vineyards for a gourmet picnic (see sample menu in the Itinerary section.) Pedal between wineries at a relaxed pace, covering about 10-15 miles (16-24 km) throughout the day. A shuttle will follow behind the group to carry any wine purchases or cyclists who want to take a break. At the end of your full wine tasting day, enjoy transportation back to San Francisco. Bring your camera for photo ops of the Golden Gate Bridge and the city skyline on the 15-minute ferry ride out to the island.Listen to a short history of the island, then don your headphones for the 2.5-hour audiotour, available in ten different languages. Learn about famous prisoners like Machine Gun Kelly and Al Capone, and hear about the various escape schemes prisoners attempted over the years. Explore 'the Rock' at your leisure, then board the ferry, which departs every 30 minutes, to return to Pier 33.
