You'll set off in the morning through the Lowlands into the central Highlands, where you'll be surrounded by rich natural scenery and famous monuments. During the next days, you'll experience the region's many treasures, from historic landmarks like Glenfinnan Viaduct, Glen Coe and Dunvegan Castle to the wonders of the Old Man of Storr and Neist Point. Spend your days taking group tours with optional added excursions and your evenings freely exploring Fort William and Lochalsh.Your tour includes round-trip transport, three nights stay in a 3-star hotel or guesthouse (twin or single room options available) and daily breakfasts.ItineraryDay 1: Edinburgh - Fort WilliamMeet your guide in central Edinburgh, and then climb into your comfortable minivan and travel northwest out of the capital through the beautiful Lowlands of Scotland to the Highlands. On route, pass by rivers, lochs, dense woodland and both Doune Castle and Stirling Castle.Cross the wild Rannoch Moor, a vast expanse of lochs, rivers, featherbed bog and rocky terrain that is home to a variety of plants, insects and wildlife. Then, pass Glencoe, a peaceful village that was featured in the James Bond movie Skyfall, and take in the spectacular mountain and valley landscapes that envelop the area.Arrive at Fort William in the evening and check in to your accommodation before exploring the town independently.Overnight: 3-star guesthouse or hotel in Fort WilliamDay 2: Fort William - Isle of Skye (B) After enjoying breakfast in your hotel, meet up with your guide and group and set off for the Isle of Skye, the largest island in the Inner Hebrides of Scotland.Gaze out at the breathtaking scenery and keep on the lookout for Glenfinnan Viaduct - a distinctive railway viaduct that was featured in several of the Harry Potter movies - as you head toward the small but active harbor of Mallaig. On arrival, board a ferry for the short crossing to Armadale on the Isle of Skye.Next, hop back inside the minivan and enjoy a scenic journey down the Sleat peninsula, noting the windswept moors and lush plantation fields as you travel. Depending on the weather, either head to Elgol and enjoy the seascape and views of the Cuillin Mountains, or visit the incredible waterfall in Glenbrittle.In the evening, arrive at your accommodation in Lochalsh, where you'll enjoy the rest of the evening at your leisure.Overnight: 3-star guesthouse or hotel in LochalshDay 3: Isle of Skye (B) Savor breakfast at your hotel and then set off to begin your exploration of Skye. On route to your first stop, gaze out at the pretty scenery and chat with your guide about the itinerary for the day. The sights you'll see are dependent on your guide, the time of year and the weather conditions.Maybe travel north to Trotternish Ridge, which is formed by a series of landslips including the well-known craggy pinnacles of the Old Man of Storr and the dramatic sea cliff of Kilt Rock. At the mountain pass of the Quiraing, the only part of the landslip still in movement, make out the unusual landscape forms that earned names like the Needle, the Table and the Prison.Further west, the scenery changes as you travel to the verdant valley of Glendale and Neist Point, a stunning multi-colored sea cliff that juts into the bay at the most westerly point on the island. Observe flocks of seabirds like gannets, black guillemots, razorbills and shags, and, in the crashing waters below, you may be lucky and catch a glimpse of a whale, porpoise or a basking shark. Then, follow your guide to Dunvegan Castle (own expense), a 13th-century ancestral home built on a rocky outcrop for the heads of the Clan MacLeod, and learn how the wealthy lived on this rugged isle. After exploring the Isle of Skye's natural beauty, return to your accommodation and spend the evening as you wish. Overnight: 3-star guesthouse or hotel in LochalshDay 4: Isle of Skye - Edinburgh (B)After breakfast, check out of your accommodation and set off south, passing Loch Cluanie and Glen Shiel, perhaps spotting red deer and wild goats. You'll also catch sight of Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the British Isles, as well as the Grampians and Monadhliath Mountains.Make a brief stop in Highland Perthshire before returning to Edinburgh via the Lowlands, affording excellent views of the Forth estuary and Forth Rail Bridge, a cantilever bridge built in 1890 that stretches an impressive 8,296 feet (2,528 meters) in length.Please note: Itinerary subject to change
