What To Expect

Your guide picks you up from your centrally located Cairns, Northern Beaches or Port Douglas accommodations in the morning. Drive for one hour to the north in a climate-controlled minivan, taking in the landscape around one of Australia's most scenic coastal roads. When you arrive at Cooya Beach, take an informative walk with one of the Kubirri Warra brothers around their traditional lands. Learn Aboriginal hunting techniques including spear-handling, then observe techniques for tracking fish, mud crabs and mussels in the mangroves. Look for wildlife, try bush tucker (food) and hear about medicinal plants in the area.The brothers demonstrate the use of certain Aboriginal tools, and might even teach you how to play a didgeridoo. as you relax on the balcony of the family home after your walk. Snack on morning tea that includes fresh homemade damper (bread cooked over a campfire), the seafood you caught on your walk, and tea or coffee while gazing at the ocean.After a memorable visit with the Kubirri Warra brothers, continue to nearby Mossman Gorge, located on outskirts of Daintree Rainforest. Experience the 'welcome to country' ceremony performed by the traditional owners of the land.
