What To Expect

Get picked up at your hotel in Cefalu or choose from a selected nearby location in the center of town and then hop on a comfortable air-conditioned coach to begin this action-packed day trip to Mount Etna and the resort town of Taormina. During the ride, enjoy the scenery of the Sicilian landscape. And then begin the ascent up Mount Etna, Europe's tallest volcano at nearly 11,000 feet (3,329 meters). At 6,562 feet (2,000 meters) get out of the bus with your guide and take some time to stroll around the area, drinking in the amazing views and pay a visit to Silvestri Craters, two diminutive craters. And if you're curious about summiting the volcano, take the optional cable car all the way to 8,202 feet (2,500 meters). Linger here and take in the incredible sights over Sicily, noticing the stark contrast from lush on the lower landscape and stark where you're standing. Want an even better view? Choose the optional jeep ride to to the very top of the crater. Follow your guide to the summit and learn about the history of the volcano. When the walk finishes, head back to the base station to reunite with the rest of the group. Take some free time for lunch (at own expense) and then head to Taormina, a stunning city on the coast that has been a popular tourist destination for 200 years. Enjoy free time to explore the town independently, strolling down Corso Umberto, the main street that is flanked by high-end designer shops, or linger for a while in Piazza IX Aprile. And one site not to be missed is the ancient Greek theater, one of the best preserved ancient ruins in Sicily. Learn about the history of this incredible ruin, first constructed by Greeks in the 7th century BC. After some time, meet up with your guide at the set time and ride back on the coastal road to Cefalu, hopping off the coach to take a photo of the Strait of Messina, before finishing the tour at the starting point.
