See the semi-ruined caves here, including the rock Church of St. John the Baptist, the oldest of its kind in Cappadocia, and famous for its frescoes.After lunch at a local restaurant, travel to Uçhisar Castle, a craggy volcanic outcrop used for refuge by villagers down the centuries, and honeycombed with passageways and cave homes. Climb the stairs and tunnels to the top, seeing the bare-rock caves on route, and absorb the magnificent panoramas from the top.Later, stop at Derinkuyu, Cappadocia's deepest underground city. Dating to the 8th century BC, his multi-level subterranean network was used as shelter during times of trouble, and contains living quarters, stables, cellars, storage rooms, chapels, wineries, and other amenities.Descend into the corridors, and hear how the network had room for 20,000 people and boasted its own well and air shaft systems.Finally, return to your vehicle and end your trip with a hotel drop-off.
