The writer of "Eugene Onegin," "The Bronze Horseman" and "The Queen of Spades" lived in these apartments in 1836 and died there in 1837 after suffering a fatal blow in a duel. The lodging of the celebrated poet was preserved almost immediately following his death, so visitors today get a very accurate look at what the space was like when he was living there.
