Once you have completed the first tour, you have six more days to complete the second.Day 1: Hobart Sightseeing Coach Tram Tour (3 hours)Get oriented with Hobart's historical landmarks, lively cultural districts and pretty suburbs on this city tour by historical coach tram. Visit destinations like Sullivan's Cove, the birthplace of Hobart; Salamanca Place, with its Georgian warehouses renovated into pubs, eateries and galleries; and Battery Point, home to charming historical houses and boutiques. Learn about the city's convict past as you see the remains of the Female Factory, a former female prison that's part of the Australian Convict Sites UNESCO World Heritage site, and check out the Cascade Gardens and Brewery. Other sights you may see include South Hobart at the foot of Mt Wellington. Plus, cross the Tasman Bridge over the River Derwent, and stop at the Rosny Hill lookout for views of the city, Mt Wellington, Sandy Bay and Glenarchy. Please note: The tram does not operate on Saturdays.Day 2: Port Arthur Tour (8 hours)Your day trip to Port Arthur Historic Site starts with the drive from Hobart to the Tasman Peninsula, passing by sights like Eaglehawk Neck and Norfolk Bay. When you arrive, embark on a guided walking tour of this former seaside penal colony, which dates back to the 1830s and was once home to the most serious criminals of the time; more than 30 restored buildings and ruins are available to explore. See sites like the penitentiary, a former granary and flour mill, the separate prison, the Commandant's House and the church, and learn about the history of the settlement and the brutal living conditions for the convicts via interpretive and interactive presentations. Then set off on a 30-minute cruise on Carnarvon Bay to see where escapee prisoners were incarcerated on the Isle of the Dead. After lunch at Port Arthur (own expense), admire the rugged coastline of Tasman National Park, and see sights like the Tasman Arch, Devils Kitchen and the blowhole before returning to Hobart in the late afternoon.
