Adventure to the Southern Patagonian Ice Field, a 5,000-square mile (1,300-square km) expanse of terrain that is home to Viedma Glacier. Located in Viedma Lake, this glacier is the largest in Argentina and is located in Los Glaciares National Park, a UNESCO World Herigage site. Explore this remarkable landscape with two different trip options:Option 1: Viedma Glacier Sightseeing Cruise After pickup at your hotel in El Calafate in the morning, arrive in El Calafate approximately 4 hours later. Transfer to Laguna Condor Mountain Hut and enjoy a beverage along with a 3-course lunch.Once lunch is finished, climb aboard your minivan and travel to Bahia Tunnel Port. Embark on a 2.5-hour cruise through Lake Viedma as icebergs flow by. View calving ice and moraines filled with glacial debris. Listen to lectures on natural history by certified national park guides and approach the 131-foot (40-meter) front of the Viedma Glacier.After your adventure aboard your boat, make the trip by bus back from Bahia Tunel to El Calafate for drop-off at your hotel. Option 2: Viedma Glacier Cruise and Trek After pickup from your hotel, depart from El Calafate at 7am, arriving in El Chalten around 11am. Then transfer to Bahia Tunel Port and set sail over Viedma Lake to the glacier.Take in views of Mt. Huemul and Mt. Fitz Roy during your 1-hour cruise, with stunning sights of the Viedma Glacier. Disembark at a rocky promontory, where certified national park guides will provide a safety briefing and lecture on glaciology and other natural features of Los Glaciares National Park. Then begin your trek across this rarely-trodden landscape, with up-close looks at the glacier from all angles. Midway through your excursion, you'll break for a packed lunch. (Lunch box is not included; it's advised that you bring your own lunch).At the end of your trip, you will be returned to your original departure point.
