Things to Do in Anaheim & Buena Park

Being the largest of the Galapagos Islands, Isla Isabela is one of the most intriguing tropical islands in the world. Approximately 1 million years old, the island is composed of six volcanoes, all of which but one are active. The unique geology of the island has drawn visitors from all over the world to see the surface uplifts at Bolivar Channel and Urvina Bay, as well as the incredible tuff cones at Tagus Cove. Also enjoy the amazing wildlife that dominates Isabela, including the famous Galapagos tortoises, as well as hundreds of tropical bird species, penguins, marine iguanas, Darwin's finches, and cormorants. Also be sure to check out the tortoise breeding center.

Along with incredible flora and fauna to explore, visitors who wish to stay on Isabela will find the settlement of Puerto Villamil to be laidback and welcoming. The white, sandy beaches and quiet lagoons are the quintessential Galapagos experience.

What appears to be a bizarre sculpture garden in the middle of central New Delhi is in fact a rudimentary astronomical observatory dating back to 1724. Maharaja Jai Singh II of Jaipur took a great interest in astronomy. He believed that the small observational tools of the time were inaccurate, so he constructed a series of 13 terracotta-colored instruments in a large, open-air observatory, the first of five he'd build during his lifetime.

Jantar Mantar is dominated by a large sundial, called Samrat Jantar, shooting 90 feet (27 meters) into the air. Other instruments in the park were used to predict the monsoons, show the sun's position during the equinox, determine the shortest and longest days of the year and measure the altitude of the stars.

The battered shell of the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church stands as a poignant reminder of the destruction of war.

Destroyed by Allied bombers in 1943, the church remains in its shattered condition as a monument to peace.

The church vestibule is now a memorial hall, with mosaics, sculptures and information panels. Important displays include the original damaged Crucifix and the Cross of Nails, created from nails collected from the destroyed Coventry Cathedral in England.

Free 30 minute tours provide an overview of the history of the building, both as a Protestant church and anti-war memorial.

A new church surrounding the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church hosts evening music services and choral and organ recitals.

Opened in 2008, the Islamic Civilization Park treats visitors to the perfect mix of education and entertainment. Five interactive monuments and 21 replicas of the world's most iconic Islamic structures pay homage to the influence of this culture and its people all across the globe. From the Al-Hambra Citadel in Spain to the Taj Mahal in India, visitors can take an international tour without leaving Terengganu. The 23-hectares park also includes a beautiful Crystal Mosque, constructed with crystal shine glass and reflective steel panels. Though many of the international replicas are still under construction, visitors say this impressive mosque still makes the park worth a trip. 

Constructed for the 1988 Summer Olympics and the 19th annual Asian Games, the Jamsil Sports Complex is situated along the banks of the Han River. Designed by architect Kim Swoo Geun, the profile of structures are intended to resemble the curving lines of a Joseon era porcelain vase. All told, the complex is capable of seating upwards of 100,000 spectators.

Opened in 1984, Jamsil hasn't housed a major international sporting event since the aforementioned Olympics. Today, the facility is home to equestrian events, the Seoul United FC soccer team, and concert events, including Bon Jovi, Ricky Martin, Roger Waters, Michael Jackson, Oasis, Pussycat Dolls, Backstreet Boys, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Tommy Lee, Celine Dion, Nine Inch Nails, and Limp Bizkit, and many others.

The nearby Jamsil Baseball Stadium, which, along with the main complex, is accessible by subway (line 2) and bus, as well as automobile. The LG Twins and Doosan Bears play to crowds of more than 30,000 people.

The combined complex (the foundations of which were begun in the 1970s) houses two swimming centers, a general sports facility, a track and field facility, and an indoor facility designed specifically for
students. The green lawns of the nearby park grounds are a popular setting for weddings and other public and private gatherings.

Though the massive international events predicted by developers and promoters in the early 1980s have failed to materialize, Jamsil is visited by millions of domestic sports enthusiasts yearly.

Originally constructed in the late 1700s for slave auctions and council meetings, the public square in Basseterre was officially rechristened in 1983 to commemorate the independence of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis from Great Britain. In darker days, human chattel were kept in tunnels under the Georgian House (now a gourmet restaurant) on the south side of the square before being brought up for bidding. Today the space is a gathering place for promenaders, family outings, impromptu gatherings, and any number of parades, parties and festivals.

Adorned with a large fountain at its center, the formerly named Pall Mall Square is surrounded by excellent examples of British Colonial architecture. The perimeters are bordered by old stone buildings and period appropriate wooden structures painted in white and pastels that make Independence Square one of the central hubs of the cultural life of the region.

More than two thousand years of German Jewish history is displayed, analyzed and exhibited at Berlin's fascinating Jewish Museum.

The collection is housed in the baroque Old Building (the former Collegienhaus), courtyard gardens, and the acclaimed zinc-coated postmodern complex by architect Daniel Libeskind.

Highlights of the modern wing include underground passages, the Holocaust Tower and the Garden of Exile with its disorienting corridor of pillars.

The compelling architectural spaces present permanent exhibitions exploring Jewish life and traditions over the millennia, from medieval traders to 19th century scholars and the turbulent 20th century.

A program of one-off exhibits explores individual stories and aspects of German Jewish life, in particular highlighting the work of artists, writers and thinkers.
