Note: If you select the river cruise option (see below for more details), this takes place before the coach tour. After boarding your air-conditioned coach with your knowledgeable guide, who provides commentary about the city's major attractions, your Adelaide sightseeing tour starts with a drive past Chinatown, where you can admire the red lanterns, pagoda-style architecture, grocery stands and eateries that line Moonta Street, marked with a traditional Chinese arch and lion statues. Then pass by the Central Market, the center of the city's culinary scene where hundreds of local farmers and specialty shops sell seafood, locally sourced meats and fresh produce. Continue to Victoria Square, home to many of South Australia's most important historical and present-day civic buildings, and see St Francis Xavier Cathedral before cruising down King William Street, where you'll pass by the governor's residence. Drive along trendy Hutt Street on your way to North and East Terraces, home to cultural venues like the Adelaide Botanic Gardens and South Australian Museum, and then head outside the city to climb up to the top of the Mt Lofty Ranges for panoramic views of the Adelaide area, including Glenelg and the Gulf St Vincent.Next, venture to Hahndorf, passing by the villages of Crafers, Stirling and Aldgate, and hop out of the coach when you reach the Hahndorf Inn for two hours of time in town to enjoy included afternoon tea and explore the charming streets independently. Your guide will tell you about the history of Hahndorf, the oldest German settlement in the country. After your free time here, your tour ends with the drive back to Adelaide. River cruise optional upgrade:If you select this option when booking, your Adelaide sightseeing experience starts with a 1-hour round-trip boat ride on the River Torrens. Hop aboard the Popeye at the launch point in Elder Park, and set off along the river, passing by attractions like the Adelaide Zoo and the public art that lines the grounds of Linear Park. While your captain provides commentary about the many sights you'll see next to the river, keep your eyes open for wildlife like wood ducks, Pacific black ducks, pelicans, egrets, black swans, herons and ibis. Glide underneath bridges, and enjoy the leisurely atmosphere of being on the water. Your cruise ends with return to the departure point, from where you can relax for 20 to 25 minutes at the rotunda (near the jetty in Elder Park) before the coach arrives to start your sightseeing tour.
