What To Expect

This San Francisco combo tour includes admission to Alcatraz, which often sells out, and offers you a memorable way to see some of the city's top attractions; on a Segway, you'll cover more ground than you would on a walking tour while still enjoying the fresh air. If you chose a morning departure time, your Segway tour is first, followed by your visit to Alcatraz. If you chose an afternoon departure time, then your visit to Alcatraz will be before your Segway tour. Your Segway portion of this tour starts by meeting your experienced guide at Fisherman's Wharf. Spend about 40 minutes practicing, and when everyone is comfortable, take off with your guide who will personalize the tour route based on your group's skill level. As you cruise down the waterfront, admire views of Aquatic Park and the old ships and piers that make up San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park. Look out at the bay and the iconic Golden Gate Bridge before you begin climbing the slopes of Russian Hill, one of the city's most beautiful residential neighborhoods. See the Bay Bridge and Coit Tower, and stop for photo ops of steep stairways and hidden lanes. Watch the cable cars go by, and visit the top of Lombard Street, the famous crooked street that dons so many San Francisco postcards. If your guide thinks everyone can handle it, you'll ride your Segway down the street's many tight turns. Next, glide toward North Beach, also known as Little Italy, and take a look at Washington Square Park, a popular local gathering spot. See Saints Peter and Paul Church, and make your way to Pier 39, known for its many sea lions. Your Segway tour ends at this point.For your Alacatraz portion of this tour, meet at Pier 33 to board the ferry to Alcatraz Island (be sure to arrive 30 minutes before your designated departure time). Enjoy the ferry ride across San Francisco Bay, looking back at the city for a great photo op. When you arrive on the island, you'll begin your independent tour of the former prison with a provided headset. Via the self-guided audio tour, learn about Alcatraz' history, including the notorious inmates, the staff and some escape attempts. Take as much time as you'd like to walk through the cellblock and around the grounds, trying to imagine prison life. When you're finished, re-board the ferry for the ride back to the city; they depart every 30-40 minutes.
